San Francisco artist, Tanya Vlach, has issued a public challenge to engineers to create a small Webcam that can fit into her prosthetic eye.
As she puts it: “There have been all sorts of cyborgs in science fiction for a long time, and I’m sort of a sci-fi geek. With the advancement of technology, I thought, ‘Why not?'”
And why not indeed?
By installing a webcam in her eye socket she would instantly become a so-called “lifecaster.” The camera wouldn’t actually be wired into the brain, so her level of vision would remain subpar, but it would make her a living science experiment that would surely prove insightful to an array of others. Or at the very least, great online tv.
But more seriously, all respect to her, I really hope that she can find someone do help her do this – not only does it open up a great new avenue of artistic opportunities, but it’s also another brilliant example of an individual not allowing a disablity to hold them back.
